Halo Campaign Evolved Select Mission Guide
Last updated
Mission Select is the campaign menu that lists the missions you have unlocked, and it is how you replay an earlier mission or start from a Rally Point without beginning the whole campaign again. Halo Studios documents the system through its official rules: patch notes promise that unlocked Missions and Rally Points stay available even when saved progress resets, co-op guidance ties mission availability to the Fireteam Leader's progress, and cross-progression syncs Mission and Rally Point unlocks across linked platforms. The exact button-by-button menu path is not described on any official Halo Support page, so this guide explains what is verified and labels everything else as unconfirmed. When a detail matters and the official record is silent, the gap is called out instead of filled with guesswork.
What Mission Select is
Mission Select gathers your unlocked campaign missions in one place so a finished level can be replayed at any time. It is the campaign's replay surface: the same menu that lets you revisit The Silent Cartographer for a missed Terminal also hosts the Rally Point entries used to resume mid-mission. The official record treats missions and Rally Points as the two things a player unlocks and re-enters, which is why both appear together in every official statement about saved progress.
The system sits alongside two other official replay features rather than replacing them. Campaign Remix is the dedicated randomization mode that Halo Waypoint describes with the phrase "return to any mission," and it becomes available once its Skull requirement is met. Mission Select itself is the plain replay path, with no randomization attached.
How missions unlock
The classic campaign unlocks its ten missions in the classic order, which is the same sequence as our mission list from Pillar of Autumn to The Maw. Each completed mission makes the next one available inside Mission Select, so the menu grows as the campaign progresses. The official mission table publishes that order, and the unlock language in official patch notes ("unlocked Missions/Rally Points") confirms that availability is cumulative rather than temporary.
The Operation: METEORITE bonus arc behaves differently, and that difference is documented. The official Player Guide states that the three-mission arc is included in every edition and available immediately, so it does not wait for classic campaign progress the way classic missions wait for each other. Where those bonus missions appear inside Mission Select is not officially documented, and this guide does not number them as missions 11 through 13 for that reason.
Rally Points
Rally Points are the mid-mission markers that Mission Select exposes as entry points inside an unlocked mission. They let a player restart from a meaningful checkpoint rather than replaying an entire level from its opening. Officially, they are named alongside missions wherever unlock persistence is discussed, which makes them the standard way to get back into a partially completed level.
Rally Point unlocks synchronize across linked platforms, while mid-mission checkpoints do not. The Co-op guide and the PlayStation 5 feature guide both state that Mission and Rally Point unlocks carry over through cross-progression, and both also state that an exact mid-mission checkpoint and player position do not. In practice that means your menu progress follows you between PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5, but a mission you left half-finished resumes from its Rally Points rather than your exact spot.
Mission Select in co-op
Co-op mission availability follows the Fireteam Leader. The official Co-op guide states that the Fireteam Leader's campaign progress controls which missions the group can select, so a fireteam is bounded by one player's unlock list rather than the union of everyone's. Shared unlocks earned during the session are credited to the participating players according to the same guide.
That rule answers the most common co-op selector question: if a mission is missing for your group, it is usually because the leader has not unlocked it yet. The same guide notes that if the Fireteam Leader leaves, the session ends, which also ends any mission selection the group had made. Players who want to reach a specific mission together should have the member with the deepest progress lead the fireteam.
Difficulty, Remix, and replay rules
Difficulty interacts with mission starts through one documented rule: Halo Support's difficulty guidance says a difficulty change applies when starting a new campaign rather than when resuming an existing save. The four official difficulties, Easy through Legendary, are selected on the difficulty screen that visualizes damage received, enemy aggression, enemy count, and enemy health. How a replay launched from Mission Select interacts with an active campaign's difficulty is not separately documented, so treat the new-campaign rule as the only official statement and check in-game before relying on anything stricter.
Campaign Remix is the official alternative when a plain replay is not enough. Halo Waypoint frames Remix as the way to "return to any mission" with randomized enemies, weapons, and visibility effects once the mode is unlocked by collecting hidden Skulls. Replaying a mission through Mission Select itself stays unrandomized, and no official page promises that a Mission Select replay changes collectible or achievement eligibility, so earn-and-return collection runs remain governed by the collectibles rules instead.
Why a mission might be unavailable
Three documented conditions can leave a mission unavailable. In co-op, the Fireteam Leader's progress gates the list, which is the most common cause for a group. During a partial download on PlayStation 5, only the first three campaign missions are playable while the remaining content finishes installing, and features such as Skulls and Co-op stay unavailable until the download completes. And for the bonus arc, placement inside Mission Select is simply not documented, so an unexpected arrangement there is a known gap rather than a fault.
A fourth case is historical rather than current. The July 29, 2026 day-one patch reset mid-mission saved progress while explicitly preserving unlocked Missions and Rally Points, which left some players without their exact resume point on launch day. Mission Select and Rally Points were the official route back into the campaign after that reset. That event is also the clearest official demonstration that unlocks and in-mission progress are stored separately.
What the official record does not document
The gaps below are deliberate omissions, not editing oversights, because Halo Support has not published details for them. This guide will not invent menu steps, and any third-party walkthrough that does should be treated as unverified against the official record. Where a gap affects a decision you need to make, the safest documented alternative is listed with it.
